The research team at Hollar Seeds concentrates on improving Cucurbit varieties through practical plant breeding methods. We are not creating artificial hybrids through any form of genetic engineering or plant transformation.

 Meet the research Team.

   Our goal is to create products which the consumer wants - fresh products that arrive on their table full of flavor and vitamins. We work to shorten the growing cycle so that our crops be grown closer to population centers, maximizing the freshness of produce grown from our seed.

   Enhancing our product's tolerance or resistance to different plant diseases is another key focus of our breeding efforts. Hollar Seeds searches the world for new plant material to use as sources of disease resistance for cross breading. Once new hybrids and varieties have been developed and observed at our Rocky Ford, Colorado headquarters, samples are dispatched around the world for testing. This testing tells us whether or not the product is widely adapted, and how it performs when compared to hybrids from other sources.

   Hollar Seeds is committed to the constant improvement of Cucurbit seed products. Vegetable producers will be more profitable when they produce crops which meet consumer demands.

Phase I: Early development. Hollar Seeds has seen only once or twice. The parents are probably not finished. There is less than 100 grams of hybrid seed available for sampling. Photos and comparison to differentials are appreciated. Customer should advise Hollar Seeds of the sowing date and expected evaluation date.

Phase II: Hollar Seeds has seen the variety 2 or 3 or more times with positive comments. The parents are purified and in the process of being multiplied. We have between 300 grams and 5 pounds for sampling. We will spread samples among high potential customers in good volume and will contact customers by telephone at evaluation. The customer should decide whether to expand testing to his growers and let Hollar Seeds if we need to provide more samples. Please let us know quantities you’ll need.

Pre-Commercial: Hollar Seeds has more than one customer who is strongly interested in testing this with his growers. Hollar Seeds is in the process of producing at least 50 kilos of seed for the next year. We may visit customers and growers to see the variety under production conditions.

Commercial: The variety is names and on the price list. We are making regular productions commensurate with sales and forecasts.
